I completed my BA degree in HRM and then completed an unpaid internship in HR with another Company for approx. 6 months. This was my first experience in a busy HR department and I loved it. I then worked in recruitment for a while to gain more experience before applying for a role in Life Style Sports…. and guess what I was successful!
Really great. The function of the HR and training department is really diverse with different issues and situations arising everyday so each member of the team are really hands on to manage this. The department is there as a support function for the stores, dealing with payroll issues, organising cool training events and recruiting new member of the Life Style Sports team that meet our brand values. We get to meet you before everyone else!
I love the diversity. Every day you have something new that needs to be done. I also love the recruitment side of the function, finding a new brilliant member of the store or brand centre team and then seeing them develop throughout the business. There are a lot of opportunities to progress here and it’s rewarding when you can facilitate that happening.
If HR is what you are looking to pursue then I would defiantly recommend completing an internship somewhere to gain a working knowledge of the role itself and take any opportunities you can to better yourself whether that be completing additional courses or getting involved in additional projects.
